Congress to use 'star' Sonia against Chiru in AP

Hyderabad: Tirupati seems to have become a favourite landmark for party politics. Chiranjeevi’s speech on the day he launched his party, appears to have sent warning signals across Andhra Pradesh's dominant parties.

Fearing that actor politician Chiranjeevi could be the rising star of Andhra politics, the ruling Congress has roped in its star campaigner Sonia Gandhi on a whirlwind trip of the election bound state. At her rally, Sonia is targeting women, who are also the vote bank of the Andhra megastar.

“Gold medal will be our, bronze and silver shall go to Chiranjeevi and TDP,” says Rural Development Minister, Chinni Reddy.

Andhra is scheduled to go to assembly elections in April next year along with the general elections. And with 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state, its a must win situation for the congress, both at the state and the national level.

Chiranjeevi's emergence has altered equations with both the TDP and the congress uncertain of how the new X factor in Andhra politics will change the ground situation
